SteamServerBrowser.com is a game server browser, aimed at providing better visibility of community-run game servers on Steam. The project aims to provide enhanced features not available in server browsers, such as detailed analytics and granular filters, so players can explore game servers easily.

SteamServerBrowser.com queries the Steam master server periodically for a list of servers in a specific region. From that, we record the name, map, number of players and other various stats about each server and keep it in a database.

It takes time to scale up to support more games - every game we support means a larger number of servers we need to track periodically. In order to sustain this, we need to tweak and further refine our systems to handle more games.

This project is still under active development, so query capabilities are still being investigated. If the game uses the HL1 or HL2 master servers, rest assured it is on our roadmap to support in the near future. Other query protocols are currently low priority.

We try not to, however we can only be as accurate as the Steam Master Servers are. Our aim to track community-run game servers and attempt to provide better exposure for those servers and their respective communities.

Our aim of this project is to provide a clear view of community game servers worldwide via the use of statistics, and to improve discoverability of game servers on the master servers. At this time, there is no way to opt-out of SteamServerBrowser.com, as this will lessen the accuracy of the data we present to users.

We have recently reworked game regions in SteamServerBrowser.com to be more accurate. We now use a Geo-IP service to locate game servers, previously we relied on Steam to determine server locations. We do not currently support moving servers between regions and rely on the accuracy of our Geo-IP service.

We query the master servers games exclusively with specific game app IDs. If a game server is appearing in the wrong game list, this is likely a defect originating from the master server.
